NSS camp at Dongapur — what the volunteers did
The annual NSS special camp was held at Dongapur from 18 to 24 July. Ninety-six volunteers took part, staying in the government school building.
What was done:
- The village tank was desilted over four mornings. The Grama Panchayat provided one JCB for a day; the rest was done by hand.
- A health screening camp was held with the Primary Health Centre, Aurad. 214 people were screened; 31 were referred to the PHC for follow-up, mostly for blood pressure and anaemia.
- A cleanliness drive along the main street and around the temple tank.
- Two evening sessions on voter registration, with 43 new registrations completed on the spot.
- A survey of household water sources, the results of which have been given to the Panchayat Development Officer.
The village fed the volunteers for seven days and would not take payment for it. The camp report and the water survey are in the library.
Volunteers who wish to enrol for next year's camp should give their names to the Programme Officer in September.
