Anti-Ragging

Ragging is prohibited on this campus, on the buses students travel on, and anywhere else our students are. It is a criminal offence under the Karnataka Educational Institutions (Prohibition of Ragging) Act, 2009 and under the UGC regulations. It is not a joke, an initiation or a tradition, and no one here will treat a complaint as though it were.

What counts

Any act by a senior student that causes a junior student physical or mental harm, fear, shame or embarrassment — teasing, rough handling, forcing someone to do something they do not want to do, extorting money, or any of it done through a phone rather than in person. It counts whether or not the junior student appeared to agree at the time.

A complaint may be made by the student, by a friend, by a parent or by anyone who saw it. It may be made anonymously. Nothing about the complainant is told to the student complained against.

What happens then

The committee meets within three working days.
Both students are heard, separately.
The committee reports to the Principal, who decides.
Punishment ranges from a warning to suspension, expulsion and a report to the police, according to what was done.
The complainant is told the outcome in writing.

Every student and parent signs an anti-ragging undertaking at admission. That is a formality; this page is not.
